Since I have the broken turbo problem - is it time to mod my intake ?

I figure since I have it off (TA33) I might as well do the intake too....or buy one already modded from...who was it that was doing them again ???

I win engineering ??

Are they ready...anyone know ?

Jim (FJM568) was coming up with the intake. Dont know the status though, he said he would only let them out after much testing (thats a good thing, I think). He was also doing heads which I think he already had pics of.
Might want to get ahold of him and see. Sounds like he is going through alot to make sure the intake is going to be right.

If your going to port your stocker, Im sure someone will chime in, I remember lots of people posting about this before. I know Lee Thompson uses his stock intake, not sure what all he did as far as porting. I know he chose his stocker over the Turbomotion V1 after trying it, (I would sure like to know more about that since Ive got a V1!).

It wasn't Jim

It was me. They are not done yet, but should be ready to post pictures next week.

Or just go to www.iwinengineering.com, they can port your stock one for you. I just ran 12.70 last night on one they did and have a lot more to go. It's your choice. But they are already set up and ready. Two week turn around at best.

And to clear up any confusion I was recommended to do this by Lee Thompson, who is just running a ported stocker. I had one of the v-3's and found way too many issues with it. Just my two cents.

SORRY

Sorry about that misinfo 6PacktoGo and HOTSIX (and FJM568). Going back and forth between threads trying to keep up with whos trying what, I guess I got you guys mixed up.
Anyway, glad you chimed in, I thought your product would be the ticket for HOTSIX.
Also, I was hoping you could give me some more details on the problems with the V1 intake, because I have been using one (the hotair one with the large open plenum, supposed to flow better than 86-87). I remember you mentioning this in one of your posts, something about flow issues? I know that Lee had problems when he tried it and went back to his stocker. I dont know the exact details on his problems, or if they were definately related to the intake or not.
Thanks alot, and sorry again.

P.S. You can email me with the info if you would rather do it that way, I would really like to know.

Turbo6X2 - What other mods do you have ? Does it compare to my car's mods listed below in my sig ?

6Packtogo - I Win charges $350 for their version. How would or does that compare to what you charge or will charge for yours ? I might wait for yours...but us Canadians have to be very careful when buying in USD - since our dollar sucks !

That $350 I mentioned equals out to roughly $600 CDN plus shipping plus customs. So lets call it an even $700 CDN if i'm lucky.

It would be very hard for me to justify that to myself, my car and my wife - having not seen any in action - however I have taken a risk on other things on this car...such as parts from Turbomotion (got that cash back by the way), Walbro, Accufab, Casper's and others. So I could make it happen if it was a worthy move.

Would it be cheaper to get an intake ported here at a shop myself ????

You could go that route. There is a lot of time involved with doing this. So be prepared.

Pretty much the same except I run a 206 206 weber cam. the turbo is from Limited engineering and it's the biggest you can get in the stock housing. I just know the v-1 intake I liked a lot and had no issues. Then I upgraded. Should of stayed with the v-1. That's all I'm saying. I know others had similar issues. :(

It looks like our intake will be between $450 and $550 U.S., and the heads will be just under $1K U.S. ready to bolt on. We may (probably will) offer a package deal on the heads and intake.

If you are not going to go all the way on a set of heads, the fully worked intake will probably not be worthwhile for you. The reason being that the heads will be a big bottleneck compared to the intake.

The average set of ported heads I've seen won't go much past 190 cfm per port on the intake, where as our heads will hit around 210 cfm per port (we're trying something a little different, we may see 220 cfm per port), and the open plenum intake will go around 230 cfm per port.

Yes, there is no question that our parts are expensive. The work we're doing is labor intensive. Honestly, there isn't much profit margin there either, due to the time involved, and in the case of the heads, the quality of the parts installed. I've not seen anyone charging less stay in business long, and I don't plan to close up shop any time soon.

The first intake (and possibly the second) will be ready the second week of November, and if they aren't gone by then, there will be ONE set of heads available also.

As I said before, this will be done in a far different manner than you might expect. I will not accept orders, money, or cores, until I have parts ready to ship. This will be done on an exchange basis, we'll have intakes and heads ready to ship, and you send us your intake and/or heads with a cashiers check or money order, and your parts WILL be shipped within 24 hours.

We've been in business for over 20 years, and we'll be here for a long time to come, to offer service after the sale.

This type of work when done correctly is very time consuming. They have to at least recoup their time.

I like the sound of buyin an intake ported and ready to bolt on for $450. Might consider that....

What i'd like to do is try a ported intake - bolt it on and see what happens.

I'm not really wanting to play with the heads if I don't have to. Not lookin' for a race car here...just a 'lil boost in performance and the ability to stretch out the legs of my TA33 - that I have been unable to enjoy as yet due mostly in part to my restriction problem.

What you guys think...gotta do the heads too ? OR can I just do the intake ?????

Is doing one pointless without the other ???

With the mods I have in my sig - I should be rollin' along - but i'm not.
