Ok, I think I might fianally be getting somewhere. I believe the timing chain has "skipped". I will be getting to it maybe next week. I need to know if I should buy a stock(nylon) or upgrade to the metal kind. Any input would help....I need to get the parts ordered. Thanks again for all the help.Any pros/cons to the metal ones????

I would install a steel timing gear instead of the stock one. It makes more noise but it will not fail you. I have been there and done it-Brad

while you are at it get a roller cam button, so it don't drill into the timing cover.

Depends on your goals and budget. While the roller unit is recommended, the stock unit has shown to last over 100K miles. There are also many cars out there with 75K plus miles who have run good 1/4 mile times with the stock unit.

If you are building a stock motor, I feel the stock unit should work fine for many miles. If you plan on keeping the motor and putting on another 50K miles (picked the number arbitrarily with a 50% safe zone) then the stock unit will do fine. My $0.02 :D

definitely get a metal one, the nylon ones can strip teeth and they can end up in your oil sump, starving the motor for oil. Many of the stockers did this.

Thanks for all the replies, information. Metal one it is.... I will order and keep everyone informed. I might try to install it myself????lol Dave
