Anyone have any tips for changing the chain with the LEAST amt of problems . Its a stocker and the cars running pretty well right now . Id hate to screw with it and create a pain in the , anyway id hate for it to go too . I figure the motor has about 95k on it . or should i leave it alone?? when i got it from a buddy it was about 80k so im considering doing this. My old motor the stock chain held out to 150k but i dont know if im flirting with disaster here , chain looked good when i swung the motor but ?

With that many miles it would be worth changing out. I would also drop the pan and check the pickup tube for junk too while you're at it. Makes it easier getting the front cover sealed up to the pan IMHO. I'd go with a stock style chain with steel gears and stock tensioner.

Good reading for you:

Galoush......If you feel you must replace the chain and gears {not a fun job!!} Do NOT go with anything but a stock set-up. The double chains are not all they are cracked up to be. If your engine is stock there is no need to change the set-up.....and as you already know, the GM part in there has done you well up to 80K miles already!!!!
