tips to smooth hunting at idle?

I have been playing with idle commands to reduce the hunting I get at idle. it just wont seem to stay at a good RPM, I have gone from 650 RPM up to 1100 RPM. I do not want it to rev any higher than 900 at idle, and I know it can be done, but what should I play with to get it there?

Running too lean is the first thing I'd look at- not all engines like 14.7:1.

Also, timing can do that (I forget whether it's too much or too little).

If you play with those and they don't help, then there are the IAC P and D terms, but those can be quite confusing and are not really self-explanatory.
