anyone have these rims on their car ?

I was looking to use 255-50's and 245-50s on the rear and fronts respectively.

thanks

i used to run 245 50 16 on the back and front, but due to the fronts being so wide, the car drifted alot and went its own way when braking(this is with a new front suspension and brakes ) so i then went to the same on the back with 225 50 16 on the front and it rode great. i think too wide of tires in the front on our cars' suspension setup is never a good idea. HTH

I run 255/50's in front on my 2+2 and the car tracks a lot straighter under braking than my neon sport and I can practically take my hands off the wheel at 165 mph... and the suspension was identical to that of my T-type.

When you have the car aligned, put in at least 4 degrees of caster and make sure the upper bushings are 100% (replace them with poly and use a heat shield near the down pipe). I've run the 255's in front since '99 at speeds over 170 mph and the suspension doesn't seem to care.

A bigger problem with 245's is that with the stock springs, there is a good chance they will hit the inner fenders on bumps, so it's a good idea to switch to stiffer springs.

I run 295/50/16 on my GTA rims, but I had mine widened to 10" by Brian at Gbodyparts. It leaves a huge footprint in the back and hooks pretty damn good on radial tires. But in the summertime I run a 16 x 12.5 MT ET streets.

That's weird. What's your alignment look like? How are your UCA bushings and ball joints (I know you said new, but rubber? Poly? delrin? Steel?)? How's the Idler arm?

It sounds like when you step on the brakes the compression of the front suspension is creating a lot of toe out. That would cause things to get a little twitchy. The bigger the front tire, the more braking force you're going to have, the more front end dive, the more toe.

I have 245s on the front of mine, and it brakes straight as an arrow.

What knid of tires do you run? Brand?

I bought a set of those 295 50 16s. BFG TA radials 10 1/2" footprint. However, like all BFG TAs, absolutely NO BITE.

I ran Yokahama 225 60 16s on the front of my Red T. Took them off at 45,000 miles and they still looked like new. Right now they are $59 each at tirerack. ;)

They are the same tire that
Red Regal T mentioned. But I have good success with the hooking aspect of these tires. My car has always hooked like nails on the street for some reason. I don't leave with boost, i leave with rpm and pedal it out and put the hammer down. Its an awfully big and heavy tire when its mounted, maybe Red Regal T needs to address his suspension, my car runs mid to low 10's and they work very well for me.

We could discuss my suspension, but I'd rather stick with my opinion that radial TAs are junk, so we'll have to agree to disagree. Obsolete tire technology that they will be more than happy to sell ya. If you want a striking difference in street tire "dig", get some Sumitomo HTRZs. ;)

FYI..........The only people who make bigger than 255 50 16s is BF Goodrich. The 295s are 27.5" tall and about 10.5" of tread. This is a big tire. You may have fitment problems. I think BF Goodrich also offers 265-50 16s. Check tire rack to see if they even still offer these sizes.

With 9.5" rims and the 255 sumitomos, you will put 9.5" of tread on the ground. They are 26.2" tall and are speedo calibration friendly. When I first installed them on my car, the superior hook was very noticeable and pleasantly surprising. ;)

ss wheels?

red regal are those monte SS wheels or iroc wheels? they are very nice and the car is stunning. what did you do to make the wheels fit?

Thanks for the compliment. They are 16" IROC camaro wheels..............four fronts. The wheels are a bolt on, however, to hold them out a little in the rear, I used 7/16" universal style spacers. I replaced stock lug studs all around with the 2" long version. A necessity when using spacers. ;)

Right now, I installed 17" after market IROCs on the car.
