A newbie trying to keep this short

I'm out of town for work, get a call from the wife the other day, trans fluid puddle appearing under car (87 WE4[?, authenticity under investigation]). Her dad (a darn fine mechanic) takes the time to check it out (no time to fix, darn).
His comments (paraphrased) looks like the leak is from the trans dipstick tube. Appears to a be a plastic [???] piece thats cracked and if its (tube) at all pushed (sideways?), leaks.

So I've had a very sporadic leak (car level, not level, hot sometimes cold, never when I've looked for it.)

Can anyone enlighten me from this description? Is there a plastic piece at the bottom of the tube?

Did a search, but all that came up is if you need one, may be common to Olds 307 or Art Carr may carry the tube. Old thread.

Any input would be appreciated, particularly if seems reasonable, a part number, source and cost.
That and is replacing the tube & dipstick difficult.

Thanks

KenB
