Torque Converter flush

I have NO problem grinding welds (I don't believe the converter will fit in my lathe), and welding; but man, do I really have to open the converter to clean it out?

When I've replaced a trans I also went with new converter, so I never thought about it. Some cat in trans talk said something about openning the converter to clean it out.

Can I let the converter drain for a few days, fill it with a solvent like lacquer thinner, let it soak for a few days drain and repeat?

Also seems like the converter could be welded in an unbalanced* position without a weld fixture.

*Unbalanced. The two shells not parallel, heat warp, mounting points not 90* to the converter snout...seems like trouble to me and I fabricate stuff for aerospace.

If you want to re-use the converter and you want it right send it to a reputable place ie; PTS and have it cleaned, checked, rebuilt and balanced also if interested have it restalled. Your asking for trouble if you don't and you maybe chasing ghost w/your new trannie.

If you can cut and clean a converter with just a lathe or griinder, You are the man!!
Not to be negative, but it will never work. It is a process only a converter co. can perform. DO NOT ATTEMPT!!!!

Send out to someone reputable and forget it.

like i said, sounds like trouble to me.
if it did fit in my lathe, it would be easy to make a clean accurate cut through the case.
