Hi Guys,
I want to build a pair of torque plates, my question is how thick of a pc of carbon steel should I use to build it? The idea is to bolt the torque plates on the block to simulate the heads, before doing any machining of the block. Being a machinist in a fabrication facility allows me to have the plate gas cut out on a cnc cutter. Then I would set it up on a universal milling machine and mill it flat, flip it mill the 2nd side flat, drill and bore out the holes to 4" dia. drill the clearance holes for the head bolts and I would be ready to check the pc's for flatness, and skim cut the bottom surface if necc for flatness.
