I am in the market for a tow bar, adjustable or A-frame to pull my buick around if needed with my suburban. Is there anything I should know? should I undo the driveshaft if Im going more than 20 miles? should i only go a certain speed and has anyone here used a tow bar to pull thier buick? i want to start doing more serious work, because currently the car has to stay moving. If i get a tow bar, i can move the car if nessecary and be able to hopefully pull the heads or engine soon. I wouldnt need to tow the car more than a mile if i needed to, but how far could i go leaving the tranny and driveshaft attached.

i have used a tow bar for YEARS
the one big problem is that YOU CANNOT GO IN REVERSE.
besides that
i have towed over 150 mile in one shot a bunch of times and never any issues.
good luck and check everything 5 times before you get going.

why cant you go in reverse? did you need to drop the driveshaft or transmisson or anything? stay at a certain speed?

something to do with the wheel base of the cars being too far apart.
the trans EGGsperts say to drop the drive shaft - i never did in the hundreds of tows.- the again i never talked to a trans expert before.- Today my cars i would the drive shaft just in case they are right.
speed - it depended on what i was pulling - example towing a corolla with a 1976 Chevelle i was moving - towing a G-body with that same 1976 Chevelle i was going a lot lot slower.

understood... ive got a suburban and i would be towing my regal. If i could ever imagine, the furthest i would be towing it would be about 75 miles. so i could move (carefully) but maybe a bit faster.
