TR as a daily driver

My GN is my only car aside from my wife's WRX. Up untill the last few upgrades (Turbo and Alky with chip) I had no problems with driving the GN in rain or snow. I've been driving it this way for 3 years now and she still looks great. I should mention that she gets washed often as well as waxed and the engine bay area is cleaner now than the day it was built. Thats just how anal retentive I am about taking care of my car. I know she would last longer if I used it in nice weather only, but I don't care, I want to drive it now. After all you only go around once you might as well make it good. As I was saying regarding the upgrades, she felt a little squirrely the last few times in the rain. The tires break loose real fast, even when I'm careful. So, this winter I'll be getting a daily beater (WRXsti) for safty reasons. I hope the new car gives me as much pleasure as the GN does.

Just my opinion but these cars are so old, and cantankerous, I wouldn't. They also don't have enough leg room and comfort for me. Don't forget how expensive 93 octane is these days.
Had a '86 for a dd in '93 and part of '94 and drove the company vehicles as much as I could. However, I did drive it alot in rain and ice and snow without ANY problems with exception of ripping the intercooler scoop on high built-up snow in the middle of the road. The weight of the car is all ya need with a good driver and a light foot in the slick stuff. I know A-LOT of people with T-Rs that sit in the garage and are play-toys (self-included). If you can afford a WRX SI (or whatever they call that new-one) then leave the GN in the garage.
What really chaps my butt is people that buy low mileage mint ones and drive them everyday AND in the elements. A friend here locally had a MINT '86 T-TOP 10,000 mile GN and sold it to this rich dude last year and he drives it everyday. There is NO-WAY i could do that to a car that's been preserved.

No problem driving them daily. Proper tires are a must in the winter that means 4 Blizzak snow tires on your spare rims.
Other than that I've been driving one since 1987.
I have no intentions of driving anything else either.

I cannot tell you from a winter stand point how they handle.
But from a stolen perspective I would say a TR or T-type with color will stand out a lot less.
A GN with Black could stand out.
Also Black is a hot color in a hot area.
Alot depends on what part of the country you live in.

Not that i have much experience with these cars, but i have been drving mine almost 400 miles a week since i got in in april, and have not had one single problem with it. This is also a 152000 original mile car. I see no problems with driving these daily. In fact, i think when taken care of properly they can be some of the most reliable, safe, comfotable and fun cars to drive every day. I would recommend to anyone that driving a tr everyday is just fine.

I don't want to hear you guys from Florida even mention winter. I know jealousy will get me nowhere. I just bought a T/R for a daily driver. That does suck to see a low mileage car treated like that.
I've been driving mine everyday for the last 2 years. She's got 86,000 miles on her now. Very dependable cars if you ask me.
I drive on BFG KDW's for most of the year. Great all around traction. Being in Texas, the winters aren't that harsh. When it is bad, I get a ride from a neighbor I work with .
I just wouldn't be happier driving anything else.
