my tranny in my GN was slowly going, so i worked out a deal with a friend that if i worked in his shop for him he would rebuild my tranny with a new torque converter and shift kit, they got the tranny done in about 2 days, and when on the test drive they said that i might need need a new valve body because my 1-2, 2-3 shift were really good but OD came in really late. if they adjusted it so OD came in on time the 1-2, 2-3 were sloppy. so that was last wendsday, the shop was closed thursday and friday so today i stopped in and see how things were and the tranny now had no third... they explained it to me but i didnt really catch it becuase i was getting pretty pissed at this time. they said i might need a whole new tranny and that parts of my tranny might not even be a GN tranny. i did notice when the tranny was apart that the governer gear was orange, if that means anything.

thanks for any help/suggestions

Neil

an orange govenor is USUALLY a dead give away that its a GN tranny(unless some builder got into it and changed parts)as far as needing a whole new tranny that is ridiculous, there may be a bad part in there causing some mayhem, but a complete new transshould not be the answer, they just cant find the actual problem.if it is not a REAL BRF trans it owuld be a good idea to get one but not really a necesity.check the tag on the pass rear side to see if it is a BRF,alos if the valve body or pan is off see if there is some pink paint on it that should to you if it is a brf or not.

Oh boy.....

I can see this coming.. This one is going to get real ugly.

What KLHAMMETT said is true, but now it is he said she said. Were they there, were they not there? And a bad VB is not your problem. It ran before didnt it?

I don't envy your position.

this maybe a stupid question but what does BRF mean? it ran kinda good before but not all that well...

brf is the letters GM used to distinguish the different versions of the same trans,if you look at the back passenger side of trans you should see a sheetmetal tag,it should be yellow and say brf on it.
