Why do trannys sometimes fail when the fluid is changed, i have seen failure too many time becouse of a fluid and filter change.

I've never once changed the fluid in any vehicles tranny I've ever owned. I've never once had any sort of tranny problem on any car I've ever owned. I see the same thing as you, mess with the tranny and blam, it craps out.

The high level of Detergents in fresh Fluid can loosen deposits inside & cause them to lodge in places they shouldn't be. The old Fluid & Frictions can also contain grit/metal etc.. that's helping the old Frictions hold.
If the Trans hasn't been properly maintaned it's best to leave the old fluid alone other than topping off the level.
Trans in my old C10 leaks so much it's self maintaning.

I maintain all my cars and have never had an issue when changing the trans fluid, however if it's never seen any type of maintenance as mentioned above, debris from frictions wear and tear may cause issues if it gets into places it shouldn't be. There are a lot of newer vehicles with automatic transmissions that don't even have a dipstick, and are sealed for life today. Call me picky but I have recently added in line filters to my cars as well, these get changed periodically whether they need it or not.

ive got an atf + 2000 machine in everyone of my lube shops with never one failure since 1995 .. its in how you clean things and what fluid you replace it with .. most failures are caused by solvents left in the pan or junk fluids .. most shops that do trans services dont stock all the proper fluids .. they use universal fluid with a product called lubergaurd .. its only good for about 10 thousand miles ..or after the warranty runs out ..
