Is it necessary to modify the tranny for use with a 5 disc Precision Industries converter???

I assume you are talking about the tube kit.
I did it on mine and I see what they are trying to do
The purpose is to pull the fluid out of the lockup bore so the con. will lock up quicker. Make sure the pump will not be pulling any air. They fail to mention how important this is. Mine is about 5 years old. It came with 2 drill bits----never mentioned that you need to mix some epoxy to seal the tubes.
If you ever have to call them, ask to talk to Vicky. Every time I talk to one of the guys, they seem to think they can pull the wool over your eyes. (Its always the consumers fault) They never make a faulty product.

con.

I bought mine way back, when they first came out ( single dics ).
Later they went to a 7 dics, then later a multi dics (5).
At one time you could send the single dics in for an upgrade to a multi. That is what I did about 4 years ago. When it came back as a multi dics, there was a fitting (upper coolant line) which had an orfice in it. Instructions were to replace the upper fitting with the one supplied. Also to remove the check ball in the end of the input shaft. I bought the tubing kit from them at that time. I did as instructed and all was well for 4 years until recently the clutches started slipping. It should be back here today from being freshened up. I have 2 spare trannys. I made my own lockup tubing kit for them. Once I saw what it was and what they were doing it, is not hard to do.
To answer your original ? Yes, I think it should be done.
