Tranny has a Transgo shift kit, previous owner installed, billet servo, kevlar clutches. Sometimes when just driving around it gets stuck in 2nd gear and won't shift. When it does this if I manually pull the shifter down into 2nd and then shift it into 3rd it will change gears everytime. Tonight while cruising around 35mph the rpms started jumping up and down like the converter was locking and unlocking. It also goes into gear real hard when I put it in gear even idling at 800rpms. I'm thinking these two problems may be a bad TCC solenoid. Does that sound correct Bruce? What could the stuck in 2nd gear problem be caused by? I've had someone locally who does trannys for Buick look at it three times. He also owns a couple of TR's. He said the fluid is always spotless, no metal at all. He even removed the valvebody and cleaned it thoroughly. When this tranny is acting right it shifts real hard, which I like, and feels good. I have another rebuilt tranny that I can put in but I'd like to get this one right. The problems it has don't seem to be major just difficult to figure out. I'd very much appreciate any ideas on whats causing these problems. Tranny has a stock converter by the way. Thanks everybody.

Well...

You are right on the tcc. You could change it just to be sure. As far as the kit you have... well you have heard it on here and all around, that particular kit has a tendency to do screwy things and sometimes ruins the vb forever. So factor that in .... and as far as a remedy ahhh Set it on fire. Burn it to the ground. Problem solved...!!! LOL :D

Good Luck... BT

Bruce does that kit modify the VB permanently? If not can I just buy a PTS shift kit and have it installed to replace the Crapgo:mad: kit. If the VB is permanently modded I may just try to find a VB and have a PTS kit put in it.;) Thanks.

Hey Familycar,
The Transgo does not require permanent mods to the VB to make it work. If the Rodster serviced the VB and used a Trans-go kit it can be removed and a new one installed. However before you do so I would not give up on the Trans-go. I called Mike Kurtz, when Rodney asked what shift kit I would like to use. Mike Kurtz sent me a Trans-go but with modified installation directions. I spoke to Mike verbally and he made it very easy to understand why this spring and that shim are so important. As far as locking & unlocking it sounds like TCC soleniod. Here is an easy check... Disconnect the 4 wire connector running to the side of your tranny. That is the signal connector that locks and unlocks the convertor. If its still does it with the connector unplug I would look into replacing the pressure sensors within the VB as step 2. HTH..

Thanks Mike. Rodney did look at it I believe 3 times and still couldn't get it right. The kit was already installed when I bougth the car. Its not a Mike Kurtz TransGo but a regular Transgo shift kit. He makes some changes to the Transgo kit which is why it works unlike the one in my car. Rodney did replace a couple of things but he got them from TransGo not Mike Kurtz which is why it still isn't right I'm assuming. I'm not going to deal with Rodney anymore. He was supposed to look at the rod bearings for me one Saturday and we made plans to do it. I called him several times and left messages and he didn't have the common courtesy to even call me back and let me know what was going on. I don't have the time nor patience to deal with people like that. I really think he was just giving me the run around and didn't want to mess with the car in the first place. He should have just told me that to begin with. Anyway if I need something done now that I can't do then I'm just going to take it to Mark at TurboTune. I hate to go that route but theres no one else around here that knows anything about these cars. Anyway if I can get this car half way right I might take it to the track. E-mail me your number and we'll get together and go to Farmington one night. Is Clint still working there? I stopped by his house a few weeks ago but he wasn't home. Tell him I said to give me a hollar. Take it easy, Stephen.

My converter kept locking and unlocking, it turned out to be the brake pedal switch. Thanks to some more knowledgeable neighbors of mine.

I called you today... no call back tho :D LOL

Hey Stephen,
Clint still works at Autozone but is a district manager and travels alot. Understand how ya feel about Rodney. He can be difficult to get a hold of at times. I ordered a 9X11 from Bruce T and should be here next week. Hopefully I can see what the GN will do at the Farm soon after. I'll tell Clint you stopped by as I have to return something to him tommorrow... see ya

Bruce it is now 4:06am EST. I will call you at 12:30pm EST today. That will be 9:30am your time. In the mean time keep on twiddling those fingers;) Talk to you in about 8 hours and 24 minutes. I'm going to sleep. :D

Hey Familycar,
Drop me an email as I talked with Rodney today over lunch. He apologizes about not calling you that weekend about the rod bearings. I told him briefly about your tranny situation your having. I mentioned a couple things to him about what shift kit you planned on using. Might give him a shout as he wants to help you out if he can. HTH
