About 4 years ago I installed a newly rebuilt tranny with all the good stuff in it. It shifted nice and firm, and really did well. One problem it leaked. I assumed that it was the pan gasket and over the years have replaced the gasket about 4 times. I just thought I had a bad pan and tried different things to stop the leaks, cork, rubber gaskets, sealer, things like that. I drive the car very little and between fixing up the house, a baby and things would just fool with it occasionally. Well I got a new pan from one of the members here and installed it over Christmas, did a real neat and careful job. About 5 min after putting the fluid in I checked for leaks, and found none around the pan but did feel fluid around what I thought was the speedo cable. The car was on the ground and I was reaching under it feeling and just saw a cable. I assumed it was the speedo cable. The next day I raise the car and prceed to take the bolt out that holds the base of the cable. I couldnt get the cable to pull out of the tranny. I didnt yank on the cable but I pulled up on it firmly but it wouldnt budge. I looked under the hood and realized it was the tv cable. CRAP.
I looked a little more carefully and got the cable out of the tranny by carefully sliding it off of the pan in the tranny. I ordered a new 140.00 cable and installed it yeasterday with a new o ring gasket...No leaks but the car is not shifting right. 1st into second is a slipping mess and when the car is in second it slips real bad. It hits third good and OD good with no slipping in other gears. It pulls good and kicks into passing good as well. Just 1st into 2nd and during second is the problems. Adjusting the cable does nothing but make it worse. I'm sure I damaged the assembly in the tranny for the tv cable. The pin didnt seem damaged though from outside the tranny, it moved and retracted back into the tranny freely. Unless anyone has a suggestion on something I could easilly do I am taking it to a shop. I feel like a fool by thinking that was the sppedo cable, I have been kicking myself over that one. Me and trannys do not get along anyhow.Would pulling on that assembly and a damaged part for that tv assembly cause this problem? And since I probably have to take it to a shop, anyone know of a good one in the Dayton Ohio area?
