I bought a tranny a little time ago and was told it has a trans brake. Some thing about it works when i put the shifter in 1st it will come on. I dont really get it how does this work , if you put it in first and it locks , how do you get it to unlock or how does it know when. I dont want to drive the car till i find out how it works so i dont break any thing.

thanks guys

dont pull it to low gear while driving thats a big no no.

when you shift to manual low it aply's first and revese at the same time.

once you boost up on the transbrake you simple shift it out of low and away you go..:D

What kind of tranny and who's brake is in it? Scott McClay and Bruce both make solenoid activated brakes for the 200-4R and work like normal in low until you push the button. The Mallender brake works as soon as you put into low, like Red said. Sounds like you might have the Mallender or a copy...if that is the case, it will lock up when put into low 1. Make sure you are not moving (did this once myself in dirt). :D

Iam not sure , the guy i bought it from said it was a deltrans with a trans brake.

we will find out iam sure. :)

What you have is a mechanical transbrake. By shifting into first, the modified shift valve allows fluid flow to both the first and 3rd/reverse circuit...effectively cancelling each other out. This allows you to build boost to your heart's content without fear of the brakes letting loose and rolling the car through the staging beams.

As noted by RHA, by manually upshifting out of First, the transbrake "releases". What happens is the fluid flow to the 3rd/Reverse circtuit is cut off and only the first gear circuit is engaged, allowing the trans to operate normally.

If you leave the shifter in OD while driving around town/highway, etc., you will never know the transbrake is there.
