What causes a trans pump to buzz--comes and goes-- mostly comes.

I would suggest its from the pump relief valve. Had that happen intermittently one time on mine. I suspect that there might be a restriction down stream somewhere and the pump pressure goes too high so the relief valve (safety device) opens and closes rapidly to allow the pressure to drop back to spec.
Just my thoughts.
