I have an 87 WE4. Testa Chip, bigger injectors, 1 1/2 IC, hot wired perf pump,160thermo,bigger DP, etc.

I notice more and more frequently that on a long drive.....especially if I drive over 85 mph that when I come to a slower speed, or actually stop............My trans did NOT downshift to the appropiate gear......and the engine bogs and almost stalls!!

If I manually shift car, no problems, but obviously there is an issue here!

This just started happening.......no changes were made.

I no if I take to a tranny place it will be the ususal "Oh we need to rebuild it" a a cost of 1000 PLUS bucks........no thanks.

Any thoughts??

Thanks,

Tom

Could be the solenoid. Unplug the connector on drivers side and see if the problem goes away. If so, not much to change the part out.

Tranny

DannyO, you hit the nail on the head.....solenoid was DEAD. Replaced it and she downshifts perfect!

Another question.........I also notice that when she gets warmed up that under "in Town" normal stop and go speed........the trans shifts up prematurely. But under hard acceleration, the trans holds shifts at correct high RPM's.

I have a Testa Chip in this car, and I moved from the East coast out to Colorado. I am in a higher elevation, and I know I have to compensate and re-burn another chip. The question is, could the chip be causing the quick up-shift?

Thanks for your help!

Glad you got it fixed. As for the premature shifts, I can't say for sure if has anything to do with the chip?

Maybe you can start another thread with the problems your now having and maybe some of the experts can provide some suggetions or a solution.
