I dropped my tranny pan and found black goo, like oil in the bottom of my tranny pan..Is it rebuild time? Tranny has 100k on it and shifts a bit soft.

The black goo is clutch dust and is normal to have some if it's been a while since it's last been changed, but with a 100k on it, it might be about time for a rebuild. Check here http://www.2004rperformancecenter.com/ for the best around and if I was as close as you I'd be there or ship it there if you are thinking about a rebuild.

Thanks for the info.. I replaced the filter about a year ago. I opened it up to replace the tcc solenoid, the tranny was staying in lock up. Could that be contributing to the clutch dust? I dont know alot about trannies.

Unless you put alot of miles on it in ayear since you changed it last, I wouldn't exspesct to much dust, and yes very possible for the contamination to cause tcc to stick.

I am assuming that when you replaced the TCC solenoid, you fixed the "TCC is always locked up" problem and that you changed the fluid at that point. Regardless of why the black goo is there, if there is A LOT of black goo you're in toruble. If it is just a little bit, that is normal as noted by HOTTOGO.

Do you necessarily need a rebuild? All depends on the amount of power you are putting to the trans and how well you need it to hold up. What are your goals with the car?
