Hey, I have an 87 WE4 That shifts sloppy into second at 1/2 to wide open throttle, but shifts hard into 3rd and OD. I read back into the archives and one person suggested to change the filter and fluid and put a valve body kit in it. Just wanting to know if this will be a waste of money, or should I just rebuild it. If so, where can I get a master kit and a decent convertor. This is an everyday driver and doesn't see the track. Just like to go out with it at night and terrorize the kids with their daddy's 5 litre's and these people with their abnoxiously loud imports, so I don't need a convertor or a rebuild kit to run under 11's with. Just something to have a nice, hard shift at all times. Any help is deeply appreciated.

sounds like your trans has a weak 2nd clutch. doubt a shift kit would do much good if your other shifts are ok. your best bet would be a total rebuild.

Second clutch? Huh? What?

It would be a second gear band in a 2004r. And yes , kit would probobly help but not required. Ck to make sure 1-2 acc spring is not broken. This is the number one cause for this. I can set you up with a 2nd acc and you change when you service next. Will make a HUGH improvement without touching VB and without taking apart and without spending money. Very easy to do.

Hey Bruce, I have a 200 trans out of something else and was wondering if that 1-2acc spring out of that would work in mine. If not, how much would one be and how soon can I get one? Also, what type of shift kit would you recommend since I will have the pan off already. Thanks!
