I have been chasing a problem with my car for some time now and I think it is converter related. Here is the problem....

Whenever I let off the accelerator and coast, the rpms will drop slightly (normal) and hold for a while and then drop completely to the point where the engine almost dies and then back up to where it is suppose to be. It will continue this cycle until I either get back on the accelerator or come to a stop. My tranny is a 2004R with lockup but the lockup doesnt seem to be working. The converter is a 3500 stall PTS Xtreme (9-11) with lockup. It seems to happen less often when in drive, but will do this all the time in OD.

Any help would be appreciated....btw, the tranny and converter both work great (other than this problem) and shifts are solid.

Thanks

sounds like the converter is not un locking

ps hows my motor?........you comming to vegas?

Shawn, the motor is the best thing about the car! :D

I won't be making the Vegas trip....BOP race at Bremerton is the next race for me.

Bill, give us a call at the shop on Tuesday and I will get Bruce with you and we will see if he can nail anything down for you. To make a more accurate guestimate, we will need a lot more info from you. Thanks, Mark :D

Oops...somehow I spaced this thread....:o

Thanks Mark, I will call the shop and see if we can figure this out.

What is your IAC count?

Could be engine tuning IAC and TPS. My car did the same thing until I adjusted the air screw and TPS on the TB.

Blown&Injected....best of both worlds :D

My IAC/TPS are adjusted properly. This is definately a Trans/Converter problem and it seems like a lockup issue. Thanks for the response though....:)

Get it up to lock-up speed in OD (probably 55 MPH) and keep it gassed while you tap the brake. Your converter should unlock and lock as often and quick as you tap the brake as long as you maintain speed. If it doesn't unlock right away you may need to check the cylinder or signal.

Oh well. So much for the easy things. Intercooler's test is an easy method for testing the correctness of lockup/unlock conditions - maybe it is not the converter - could still be an easy fix.
