Trans pump

I'm going thru my trans according to the CK book, I took the pump apart and do not see the small spring that goes underneath the pump slide pivot pin, the trans appears to have been gone thru before, is this small spring necessary?

Found it on the floor right in front of me, guess it slipped by when I wasn't looking
