I was driving home from the local cruise. I was doing 65 on the highway. I noticed my RPM's were around 3100 Does that seem high? I have a 1987 Turbo T with the regular 3.42 rear end and stock tranny with a shift kit.

I do have a street brawler torque converter installed on the tranny. Any ideas why my RPM's would be so high? Is it the torque converter?

Are you sure your torque converter clutch is locking up? If not, it certainly would explain the issue.

Sounds more like you aren't going into 4th gear to me. 3rd gear is 1 to 1 ratio and O/D is .67 to 1. Since O/D is 1/3 over 3rd, then you would expect 3k rpm at 70, when most get around 2k rpm at 65 to 70 mph. Drive it and pull it from O/D to 3rd and see if you get any difference. What you are thinking is a shift to O/D may be the converter locking up. Check it out and get back with us. thanks, Mark
