Transmission skips second..

Hey everyone, I've got a problem with the tranny in my TR. When in drive, the tranny will get to the point of shifting into second, it will pause for a second, then finally shift into third at no less than 25mph. Never goes into second gear...Every aspect about the tranny works great, other than no second gear...

My question is, Is their any way this could be valve body or something like that related? I have a spare tranny that needs a rebuild and was wondering if swappin valve bodies would fix it? Any chance at all this could be the problem? Or is this tranny due for a rebuild?

Most likely band is burnt or broken if no second gear,did you try pulling it into second manualy?

Mine did this just after the rebuild. It would go into second but only stay for a half a second then shift to third. The builder called it a stacked-shift. He cleaned the valve body out and it cleared up most of it. It would still come back every now and then though. He finally put a regular 200-4R valve body in and it works fine. The only thing now is the shifts aren't as firm due to the lesser valve body. If I keep this car I will have the v.b. fixed and the big servo added.

Yes, I have tried putting the tranny into second manually, and i get nothing until i rev high then first kicks in. If I buy a servo kit, will it give me everything I need, or do I need to buy a band as well? thanks, and sorry for not getting back to this until now.

You'll need a band as well, but you won't know for sure till you get it apart.

Id have to say the band is bad also,Unless the anchor broke

Hey thanks guys, I'm thinking that the band needs replacing. Do i need to do the servo kit along with the band? Or can I just do a band change?

Any recommendations on a band or servo kit?
