How exactly does the two wire theft deterent connection on the lock cylinder work?

Theft deterent?? the only two wire connection I'm familiar with back there is the electric trunk release.

Trunk release is one wire from memory

It is. The solenoid grounds from mounting. And kind of aftermarket pin switch most likely does too.

To my knowledge - the FACTORY Theft Deterrent is limited to that funky diode box / ignition inhibitor they stash under the dash.

See what happens to the memory with advanced age!

No worries.
Half the time they are shoved up in that little cavity, or the bulb is gone, and people don't even know they have one. :D

It grounds when forced. otherwise it's a normally open connection.

Black wire is a ground cavity B, light blue wire with black stripe cavity A goes to a connector C604

It joins into connector C600 for the front drivers door tamper switch before the splice from the right/pass. side switch then onto Pin J the arm and tamper input to the theft deterent controller.

C600 and C604 are in the drivers side footwell area under the same area the ECM would be in for the pass side.

Left of the fuse panel.

Thanks savage v6. Not sure whats up with the other responces, they were probably +++++++++++++++++

Guess I'm going to have to take a closer look at my 87's trunk lid. I only remember seeing the wires for the electric trunk release and the trunk light. the 87 is security equipped.

Reviving an oldie...:D
My 86T has 3 wires to the lock area. Blk to the solenoid, orange to the lite, and a lite blu/blk that appears to go to some sort of a spring loaded sw, and what appears to be a gnd wire, [blk], screwed to the lid to the rt of the latch. [Car has/had theft det.]
However, the end of the little cable, [goes thru a hsg that looks like a mini speedo cable] has broken off.
The theft det has been removed. Can I just ignore the spring sw? If I do that, will the elec release still work? [The po had taken the solenoid off the latch]. I assume he found that since the cable had broken, the elec release wouldn't work. [And the car wouldn't start??]
The hard shelled wire protector, [and the wires], had been cut w/ a side cutter.
I am going to try to splice the lite wire, leave the blu unhooked, and see what happens. I'm not sure how the spring loaded sw is fastened in. NE1 know??
This work??

It should work I think the solenoid is grounded by the mounting which I just verified with the 1987 wiring diagram, no ground wire for the solenoid....

BLK is power to the solenoid as you mentioned.
