Can a few of you have a look at the rear bumper metal impact bar and see if the middle portion have double sheetmetal on yours or not ... see picture of mine below and the red marks I put on there where I have an outer layer of sheetmetal on the impact bar (spot welded in place) and this unfortunatly makes them rust really bad and quick.

You can easily see this if you bend down and look per my picture.

Mine's been replaced I know that from the previous owner and reason for my question is that all others I have looked at (including the reproductions avalible) do not have that sheetmetal portion on them so just like to confirm what actually came on outs before I go get a nice replacement.

Appreciate the help !

Jan,
They're doublewalled. I'll take a pic of my original tomorrow to see how it compares. I had to buy a replacement because it rusted badly...I got lucky the replacement was off of a white Trans Am.

That would be great if you can, I get both answers on this and seems like most TTA owners and other 3rd Gen's are just the single walled versions ... and the one I'm looking to pickup is also the single walled version from a 1989 GTA and that one has not been replaced.

Jan,
I'll get the pic's in the next day or two. The replacement isn't double walled, but original too?!

Yes never seen a double walled one on any 3rd Gen ... the aftermarket replacements are single walled and so are every single one that a friend of mine breaking 3rd Gen's over here have ever had and he got 2 for me to choose from (from a 88 and a 89) that I will look at tomorrow.

Also when I asked on turbotransam.com they all seem to be single walled besides one ...

Jan,
Sorry it took forever....but here's the pics. The one on the car now was an original from an 89 Trans Am. I removed the VIN sticker.

So the one off the car was the original one that came on your TTA? Looks like the one I have with the double sheetmetal on there ... the other one you have on the car looks like the replacement I picked up from a 89 GTA ...

Jan,
My replacement was off of a GTA too...maybe they were different?

I don't see a reason why the TTA would have had a different one on them and other 3rd Gen's, different years, had the same double skinned version as well but most seems to have what you replaced yours with and what I have sitting around to replace mine ... also all part numbers I find are the same for all years including the 3rd Gen Camaro ... but who know what went on back in those days with changes to the production parts used on the assembly line.
