Turbo Adapter Seal !!!!

Please look at the link below. I've been chasing a vacuum leak for so long and I think I have finally found the HSSSSSSSSS (leak).

The picture attached - #5 Top Adapter Seal.

? - Is this leak sucking air "IN" or blowing air "OUT" ?
? - Can I use some Hi temperature silicone as a temporary fix . I don't want to take the whole turbo assembly out just for that seal. If I apply the Hi Teperatur Silicone correctly, I should be able to make a good seal.

Please provide sugestions or opinions on this matter. I would really appreciate it.

I'm currently low on $$$ and cannot afford to fix it the right way.

Please suggest ideas. How bad is my performance ?

I put a vacumm gauge and it fluctuates slowly from 15 ~ 17. Not erratic. Just slowly. I'm guessing this adapter seal going to the turbo is what is causing it.

Yes, sucking air in and blowing air out.
No, silicone will not work.
Yes, you will have to remove the turbo.
Yes, felpro makes a turbo mounting kit- ES72660.

Value of the O-Ring in question: $0.50
Time to change the O-Ring: TOO LONG
Headache caused by changing the O-Ring: HUGE!!!
Potential for breaking parts while getting to the O-ring: Very High!

Good Luck man. taking these turbos on and off are a MAJOR pain in the balls. My drain tube has been leaking since i put my car back together in july. I am waiting to get a new turbo b4 I fix it. not worth the hassle in my book.

The turbo to intake adapter is no longer made, the good news is to mount a larger turbo that piece is usually cut down in size, so all you need to do is get a little rubber seal. I would check to make sure the piece itself isn't cracked or damaged.

i believe his adapter is fine...just needs it sealed, hence the o-ring...if it is the adapter ive seen em pop up on ebay

Took me 2 years to figure out that it was the adapter seal leaking. Pulled the turbo off, and the seal was split in half! and the adapter had a big piece chipped out of it! You can try the turbotrader parts section on www.gnttype.org and one of the vendors there might have what you're looking for. You can try Bob Hebert, he's a good guy, has a lot of hotair parts. HTH

Thanks for the help guys. Really appreciate it. I don't think is cracked at all. I think is just the seal.

The leak is moderate, what exactly performance wise is the car loosing. It does idle a bit rough but it works good.

I was able to get viton replacement for the discontinued GM 1262817<large manifold seal, the 25515935 small oring that goes into the turbo was still available at postons a few years back.

IF not positive about the size, they are cheap enough to buy one size higher and lower plus the size you think you need.

If all else fails you can call John craig ( turbo builder) and get the correct size O-ring.
