Hey guys when i get a TB i wanna be able to have her blow ice cold a/c..And im jus curious of the disadvantages of having it.. I wanna know if you guys put the a/c on , and you guys still get into the throttle, or do you guys jus keep outta it and turn it off to get onto the throttle? Im jus curious about it..I dont have one yet so i cant find out myself..

I use the AC, makes icicles on the dash:cool:. I doubt I would on the track if it ever sees it, but driving around it's on.

yeah.. i figured if its hott enough for the a/c to be on.. Not gonna be pushing it that hard in the heat..

haha..i know 100* in Texas is a nice day.. haha I complain about 90* weather.. I wish it was 60* or maybe even 55* all year long.. Except in November when the RUT kicks is for those Whitetails ...

My main question is , too run ur a/c and have it run cold, and have a car still making power.. Are there any add - ons from the stock a/c unit for me to notice, that i might have to put on , to make it work/run better while a/c on?

Mine still blows ICE COLD air after all these years. I've even had the engine out a couple times and still no leaks and the AC works great!

Ice cold A/C... No change in power- at least when you have plenty to spare...

Doesn't the compressor shut off when the TPS hits a certain voltage anyway? I wouldn't know, I'm putting on another compressor to get my A/C going this weekend.

with the stock ecm at WOT the AC kicks out by cutting off the relay to the AC clutch , so no need to drive around with it off , the cooling fan cuts out as well to conserve power drain from the alternator and because at wot the incoming air is more than the fan would provide.

with a good cooling system the ac shouldn't cause any issues other than a slight rise in coolant temps which could hurt performance if your tune is set on the edge , if you're in an area that gets really hot and you cant keep the coolant temps down at idle consider a dual fan setup.
plenty of cars these days running the ac equipment and making good power ( more than a few 9 sec cars still run A/C) so no need to remove it.
there is a weight advantage to removing if it doesnt work since it is about 60lbs of dead weight at the front of the car with the box which equals .6 tenths at the track but unless your class racing and need that .6 to be competitive I'd leave it in , and might as well have it maintained so it works.

BTW you dont want to run ac at the track , not because of the power robbing or the heat but because the a/c makes water and lets it drip under the car , not good or safe at the dragstrip

I would not consider any car without A/C! If it can't be street driven and comfortable, I don't need it. I have heard more like 30 lbs savings anyway.

I would never run at the track with the a/c on ... as for the water leakage...Its just when im cruising to OCMD wit the a/c on and some ricer comes flying up .. i wanna be able to blow is doors off..I jus wasnt sure if WOT with a/c on is a no no..Ive done it with my old v-8 thunderbird and she blew some fuses.. Just seeing how the TB's re act.. My plan for my car is to have a Street/Strip car so weight isnt a factor.. I think itll be nice when my buddies in a 66 fastback and 72 chevelle are going 55mph at 3k rpm... and im cruising at 75mph @ 2200rpm wit the A/C blasting

Mine worked great but I left it out when I put current engine in just so its less to deal with when working on the car. I never used it much anyway, I'd rather take off the t-tops up here. Although this week I could definately use it!

you heard wrong
the compressor is part of it but theres also the lines , condenser core drier , evap core , and the hvac box with the blower motor . came up to 61 lbs when i weighed it all up and the aluminum a/c delete plate and ac delete pulley dont wiegh much at all so its close to 60lbs lost when deleting the AC

if you do the champ a/c delete brackets you dont need the delete pulley and you also loose the large aluminum accessory bracket , the front and rear steel alternator and ac brace brackets long bolts and the tensioner , adds up

but for the loss of a/c vs turning the boost up a pound i'd keep the A/C if you plan to drive the car at all
