Turbo does not sound right

I dont have the intercooler piped in yet so the turbo is just blowing in the engine bay. WQhen i start it for a min the turbo is super loud and sounds like its squeling real loud, the turbo feals nice and tight. Do you think that it could be a problem or just loud from not being hooked up, its a ta54 and it makes the ta33 that i had sound like a toy. This squel is also at idle not rev up .


please tell me that its not the turbo and its from being not hooked up.

TTYPE85 maybe you know and can help me out.

Is it a brand new turbo? Did you hook up the oil feed line? And PLEASE tell me you pre-oiled it by squirting some oil in the feed hole and spun the wheels by hand??? Try the preoiling and see what happens....

The turbo was bought from ttype85 with about 3000 miles i think. I did not pre oil the turbo, but iam getting a lot of oil press at the t were the turbo oil line is coming from.

I guess i should pull the oil line to make sure its getting oil and put some oil in the tuyrbo by hand.

Well i did some test and it seems ok just loud. Put oil in the top of the turbo and checked the oil line out to see if it had oil press, man does it have oil press , ask my windsheild . It blow oil every were.

Just waiting on my three rerducers and i'll be done, i think

It's normal. I've blown the IC hose off several times right at the turbo and it' VERY loud. A couple times I had to drive a few miles like that since I was in the middle of no where and it makes a screaming sound. Don't worry about it. I wouldn't drive it like that because you never know how fast it might spin without a little resistance from boost.

Thats great news, i hope to have it piped in by next week, i should have the nos kit by then and i need the elbow that comes with the kit to pipe it in. I dont drive it yet just let it idle , gotta find out about this tps with the v2 , its running backwards.

Ok the turbo is piped in and its still doing it, its idling high but dont think that is it. The noise sounds like a p---- off bird that that go's up then down in tone. Is my newe turbo that has only been ran for 5 min going to blow up.


ttype85 did this make this noise when you had it.

Exhaust leak on the pressure side? Who knows, maybe it is bad.

I sure dont know. i really dont think some one on here would sell me a bad turbo so it has to be something.

someone once told me.. if an exh or compressor wheel gets a small chip or small bend in the end of the fins, it can make a turbo MUCH MUCH louder than normal without really affecting any operating aspects... i know todd is a good guy and would not sell you a bad turbo on purpose

No your right he is a great guy , but maybe he can help find out what it is since it was his turbo and know what it sounded like .

Well ive been working on trying to find the problems with the turbo and tps but not a thing since 10oam . Now i wil be taking it all off and trying my brothers stock turbo to see if the noise is coming from somewere else , i hope.

One thing you might try if you haven't pulled the turbo yet is pull the wastegate rod off and see if the noise goes away or gets quieter.

Ok guys i was in the car and tought , this turbo is in to good of shape to be bad or any thing so i put a hose on every thing buy the turbo. The noise seemed to be coming from more of the tb then the turbo , since i have the v2 its hard to tell.

The tb was loud so i sprayed it with wd40 and it looked like it sucked it in . When i pulled the tb the gaske was wet. It was sucking so hard that it was making the loose gasket sceam , put the new ones on and its never sounded so good.
