my motor is out and the rebuild is nearly done after the old one wiped out.

i obviously need to take a good look at the turbo (T66) and maybe rebuild that too before i put it back in. what should i look for when i disassemble the turbo to inspect it? it doesn't have any shaft or end play but some metal went through the motor (wiped cam). also no smoking issues, noise, and it made normal boost.

should i get a rebuild kit with new bearings and just give it a rebuild?

Many times the metal gets packed into the turbo. Tightens it up. Feels great when you ck it but internally its a mess. I would have it looked at if I were you. It might save you a bunch of cash in the long run

i looked at it again last night. there is a little bit of slop in it. the compressor and turbine wheels and housings look ok but i have completely taken it apart yet.

pte - sending you a pm

We have seen this a few times after an engine has been trashed. Turbo seems fine, but after a few runs then lots of $$$ to repair it.

We send them to PTE to make the determination of what needs to be done. No way I am a turbo repair expert, and I want the guys that work on them every day to give me advice rather than any "unknown" voice from a board.

Since the turbos I am talking about are not cheap, from just $1400 to some big BB's up to $3K+, not worth taking a chance.:)
