This looks like fun!

Introducing the new two-passenger personal watercraft in the Honda AquaTrax family: the new AquaTrax R-12X. With its turbocharged 1235cc engine, incredible class-leading maneuverability and impressive power-to-weight ratio, it's the highest-performing PWC on the water—period.

Heres the link:

check out page three of the broshure for a motor pic.

That's sick..

I looked around real quick but didn't see any performance specs... wonder what the top speed on this thing is. SICK

I talked to a guy at the local outdoor motors shop here in Lincoln, and he said with smooth water, and one driver, that it would have no trouble seeing 70 mph on the water. He informed me that some of the high end sea doo's will go about the same top speed, but the acceleration of the Honda is about twice as fast. I think that they are intercooled too.

Honda makes two models, the r-12x and the f-12x. the f does 59 stock and the r does 63 and change. polaris also has two turbo charged skis coming out but are currently delayed for some reason. all the major makers are switching to 4-stroke technology. sea-doo is the king of the hill as far as hp goes at 185 hp with there super charged 4-stroke. the top speed of any stock ski is 65 as mandated by government. dont believe your speedo as pwc speedometers are notoriously optamistic.

I see no intercooler in the pic, but I'm sure it would be feasable to build a small water-to-air IC. Just add a bigger Turbo, some alky injection, and hold on!!   :D :D :D

being a water craft it is perfect for a turbo! water cooling the turbo and IC ...

I've been wondering why smaller pleasure boats don't come with turbo charging. It makes perfect sense to HAVE it. It's already been stated "being a water craft it is perfect for a turbo! water cooling the turbo and IC ..." I have an 18' Four Winns with a 4.3L, why not have something similar to a Sy/Ty engine in there?

Coupla reasons they don't have turbo's on boats, but the MAIN reason: HEAT--I've seen a couple of turbo'd boats before, but anyone running an un-cooled turbo on an enclosed boat engine is just asking to blow themselves up! And since simple water cooled exhaust risers are $500 a pop, can you imagine what a water-cooled turbo housing would cost?

Another problem: too much power! Sounds stupid, but just ask my friend Brad, who now owns my 21' Searay midcabin...right after he bought it, he promptly blew 2 headgaskets (speaking of other reasons) in the original 350, so he built it into a 383. With no other mods than it BEING a 383, a new marine-grind cam and some GOOD ported dart heads, he's blowing the hubs out of props just about every time he gets on it hard! And if he goes to solid props, he's just about guaranteed to have a bent or busted main-shaft in the outdrive! (if he don't twist the u-joints in half first!)

too much power, what a problem to have! ;)

dude, sounds like your friend is a bit hard on boats. they arent like cars, lots more stress on the engine. a 21 foot cuddy cabin with a 350 probally has an alpha1 drive which isnt high performance. he needs to upgrade to the bravo unit or somthing else stronger or just get rid of it and get a purpose built speed boat. we have an 22 ft stingray bow rider, its a 2000 model year with a 240 hp fuel injected 305. over 200 hrs on it without a problem.

Well, yeah, he's drives 'em like he stole 'em! :D

Actually, we don't really know WHY the headgaskets went, it's not like he's WOT 24-7. We're sure they would've blown on ME at about the same time, just one of those things...And the 383 turned out to be a monster, LOTS more power than he expected!

funny you mention "purpose built speed boat"... THIS is the boat he had before he bought mine!
(Pop quiz: what is it, and how old is it?)

What is that in the background. Are they real or fake?

looks like something from the late 70's, maybe a lake ski boat?? looks fast for sure! is that a small block ford back there?
