For those who don't know I have an HKS Type-1 Turbo Timer wired into my T. This is a Japenese spec Metric unit. Function has been flawless until yesterday...

...Amy was driving my T and it threw up the SES light. She quickly got the car home and went to turn off the ignition and the Buick continued to run and run... the car refused shut off & was idling @ 2000rpm. Well after over heating & nearly dying (the car not the girlfriend) she pulled a random (yes, random) wire out of the fuse block and the car shut off. The wire she pulled was one for the HKS TT, the power wire. Yep, it malf'ed. I figured it was the TT before I got home because of the insanely fast idle speed and IGN override... the TT causes the car to idle that quick during cool down. This is just a word of warning... FWIW, the car still runs fine. :)

Turbo timers are for Ebay, keywords "honda, Acura, mitsubishi, Turbo"

A dumb idea whose time has not yet come.

Okay, Let's make something clear here:

I wasn't looking for an opinion on my personal choices as far as parts/accessory selection goes.

If I wanted to do everything in a conventional manner I'd build a recipe car and sit on my hands like a mindless drone.

In the meanwhile this car will:
HANDLE
HAVE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION
USE J-SPEC PARTS
FIX THE FUNDAMENTAL ERRORS IN THE ENGINE'S CONFIGURATION

If you don't like it, tough SH*T! If I wanted your opinion I'd ask for it. In this case I was advising, based on my NEW experience, of a potential cause for error in the electrical system when a Turbo Timer is introduced.

Finally, some of my best friends drive Sport Compacts... and I like their company as much as my TR buddies.

That is okay I wasn't looking for help. Or opinions. ;)

A TT is basically an IGN by pass that keeps the car running after you have been beating on it to allow the oil/turbo to cool down so that you don't "coke" the bearings inside the turbo.

Some examples:

What UNGN's ignorant ass doesn't realize is that my TT is also:
An accellerometer (1320, 0-60, 0-100, etc)
A tachometer
A voltmeter
A speedometer
A stopwatch (for Auto-Xing/Lapping timing)

I almost never use the TT function itself... as I don't drive like an ass on the street. :D

HTH,

A turbo timer was designed to separate idiots from their money (kind of like the whole sport compact thing)

It works by continuing to idle the motor after you shut it off, so oil circulates throuh the turbo to keep the bearings from coking up. At least until the turbo has been cooled to below the oil coking temperature.

If you drive like an idiot: Run a 1/4 mile, then shut the car off and coast to the pits and do this over and over again, then the turbo timer is just for you (because it keeps the motor running after the idiot...you, if this case...shut it off prematurely)

Of course this is only my opinion. I'm not saying you are an idiot if you buy a turbo timer, But... If you are an idiot, you may need a turbo timer.

No it is technology to make your life easier. I can shut the car off and leave while you have to wait in the car for a couple of minutes and adjust your overalls to get ready to watch some nascar........being such a tech hater makes me wonder why you don't drive a V8?????

at least I learned something new today:D
You know what they say different strokes for different folks.
There's more than one way to skin a cat!

They're also nice for warming the car up.

If it's cold out I can start the car, set the timer for 10 minutes, take the key out, lock the doors and go back inside.

This is not COMPLETELY accurate. Some also play songs while they're keeping the car running.

Some alarms have this function built in, and idles only at the users request.

Our cars, and not many others for that matter even need to sit around idling after a run, with our without the TT (I wont go there).

After all, if you've ever watched an/your EGT gauge, you'll see that it only takes a few hundred feet of easy driving to cooll things down to a safe level. I don't know of anybody that makes a full boost run and "immediately" shuts the engine down??

Even after gettting off the highway (after a blast out there), you still gotta drive the surface streets to get into your driveway.

TT are in fact a waste for these cars. Let the rice boys spend all their money on them.

"Fix the fundamental errors in the engine's configuration"?????
