turbo up grades ?

i have a 78 buick regal 3.8 turbo 4 barrel carb and was wondering could i up grade to a 85 turbo and would it work with out modifications ?

No. The carb turbo cars are unique and you can't get a simple upgrade for them. You can use the compressor wheel (84-85) and the complete hot side of an 84-87 if you want but there is no direct bolt on turbo for one of the C/T cars. In my sig is the thread where I figured out how to make an upgrade though.

A turbo from an 82/83 has a lower A/R housing which will spool a little faster.

How much boost are you running? If you're still running factory boost levels (9 psi), there's no point it changing. Running more boost is the easiest way to more performance. Of course you need to take care of any knocking first.
