I got a friend wants to sell me his viper engine has 38K miles and I was wondering if I wanted to use it with a turbo which size precision turbo would be best?

I would only upgrade injectors and pump, the engine does not have forged internals its stock. I prob would keep it around 10 PSI to keep it safe for mainly street and some strip for fun. 93 and no alky etc.
Would a 71 HPQ be a good street turbo so theres no lag if I am only gonna hit 10 or bigger since its a V10?

I have a 6765 on the GN and theres no lag there.
Not trying to get crazy with it just want about 200 more RWHP

thanks

What model did it come out of? IIRC they changed the displacement etc on the newer motors compared to the 90's viper v10s... Seems like a good idea, I would be interested to see.. Check out what kind of turbos they put on the hennessey vipers etc, and maybe go a step or two down since they probably build those motors to high hell.

Def subscribing.

Its a 2004 viper and its stock everything.
The other Vipers you speak of are twin turbos and forged rotating assemblies and the crank alone is 5 to 6 G
Saw a lingenfelter one from Moldex for 5900$ which was supposedly discounted!

I think they are twin 67s usualy and some make 1200 to 1500 on race gas from what I've read.
The weak link on vipers is the pistons I am told when put power adders on.
8 to 10 psi is max on those pistons

Cheapest way add power is a paxton viper kit SC for 5 to 8 psi
But I am partial to turbos after my GN and my cobra

Thanks

Please don't go too small especially on the turbine side.
You have more than twice the CI of a Buick motor.
I would probably start looking around the 76 S Trim range:

Here is the Precision Turbo that would probably work.
PT7675 CEA

This would give you room to grow.

If you wanted to just get something for your existing goals, the smallest I would do is the PT7175 CEA

Personally, I think the Q or 68 Trim would be small for the amount of exhaust velocity your motor can produce.

No matter what turbo you use 200whp gain would be very optimistic without a piston swap and would probably not be ok on 93 octane without dropping the CR.

With the displacement and torque those things make, I would go 80mm and up, nothing smaller, especially if your not pushing more then 10#'s. Hell a small fram 88 would work fine, maybe even a bb, billet 76.

v10 viper motors crank bearings spin.miss a gear rev over 6k stock motor spun bearings.dont rev over 5400 rpm will be fine tons of torque.

viper club of america google spun bearings stock motor opps they over reved 6100 rpms 190mph. repair 5k later ask me how i know.

All was in order and drove four hours to get the car and the test drive was horrible.
Man these car are not fast or easy to drive.
Panteras are known for close pedals but Vipers have the gas pedal offset to the left and its directly inder the steering wheel.
The shifters suck, especially 1-2-3 shifts.
Visibility is poor and not comfortable, the shifter is up high and itfeels like a big go Kart.

Then when u punch second gear its like is that all? No spin no signif G force and u just stare at the tach until it finally gets to 5500 while you look at the owner in the passenger seat?
I usually but sight unseen the last few internet purchases but man was expecting more from a v10. I know a turbo could fix the lack of performance but man the viper was a let down all round, even the brakes and steering felt weird.
Anyone driven one of these and liked it?
Maybe this one was a dud?
They sure look nice though!!

Clay, just get a newer zr1 and call it a day (and let me take it for a spin:) )

What year is that? I have driven a few myself and always liked them. Doesnt sound like your driving a 2000 or newer. The 450 hp vipers where still good and fun and lots of torque, but 1995's and older with 400hp where lazier, but still fun. The Pantera's are raw muscle, but cant hold a cant to the Viper in acceration. Though, I have seen some modified that ran nicely. The Viper obviously needs a power enhansement

Its a 2004 with 16 k miles red on ebay now.
Is priced a little lower as had minor rear damage and so titles not clear

I would at least take it to a Viper Specialist or Dodge dealer, have it inspected first. After all, the place you take it will want to do the service of the car anyways, so its a good idea and they shouldnt charge much to give it a once over etc. I would ask if it has the same Gears in it as when new too. If everything checks out, your good.

Maybe try Undergroundracing in Charlotte. They have done quite a few of what you are looking for it seems on YT vids

rodney, owner of RPM transmission, has a viper with two 70 turbos, he said he was going to install a pair of 76, i think it dyno 875 hp on pump gas,
stick shift car, i saw it run at muncie dragway, with radial tires spinning pretty bad off the line and it still went mid nines,
good luck oc,
