Hello,
Does anyone know what the Turbonetics Cheetah and Cheetah Stage III turbos are comparable to in turbo Buick world? Are they like a TE44 and a TE60? The terminology and turbo families are confusing.
Thanks in advance.
Dan

Hi Dan, I called around a while back and spoke with various vendors about there turbos. Turbonetics was a little difficult to deal with in obtaining information until I managed o get past the sales drones and speak with a tech type.

From what I gathered, the stage 3 "Cheetah" is roughly equivalent to a TA-49. They don't recommend an upgraded converter but do recommend larger injectors. They no longer list a Stage 1 or 2. The Stage 4 is similar to a TE44 and the stage 5 is similar to the TA 60/60-1.

For in depth Turbonetics info I would highly recommend you contact Innovative Turbo and speak with Rick Head. He used to work for Turbonetics before spinning off and starting his own company. He's a knowledgeable guy and friendly.

Good luck,

Charles Brooks

stage 5 turbonetics

I have a stage 5 (4" inlet 2 1/2" outlet, ballbearing center 82 a/r exhaust housing) The compressor wheel inducer dia. is 2.324" & the major dia. is 3.00" (60-1) the turbine wheel has 2.493" exducer dia. and 2.798 major dia.( ten blade wheel). I like this turbo ( up frob k.b. stage 3) for the street, it spools great! 4" mega hose to plastic 4-3 adaptor from woodworkers warehouse(cut the three off, mill it out till the MAF fits and silicone it together) and off you go.

Hi Russ,
Did you upgrade your injectors or torque convert.?
How was the spool vs. a stock turbo?
Brooks thanks for the info on the cheetah.

Anyone else out there using a Cheetah turbo?

Thanks,
Dan

Yes, I used 50# MSD inj. R.A. 93 chip. (stock block/ heads) Kennebell 208/208 cam, 70mm T.B./plenum, and Kennebell 9/11 converter. It worked great, on the street 19-20# boost, very little knock (2 degrees on the shift at the most). I still have it on my new set up. Being a ballbearing center, it spools great! (it would without the loose converter too) I got it from Jack C. I called him and ordered it, he found mine used (polished comp.hous., jet hot coated .82A/R exhast hous. (1100$)
