TV Cable to trans installation

I bought a used GN with the trans out, we put it in the car and did not install the TV cable. I got a used one and put it on from under the car, it didn't want to seat down and now is leaking. I am going to do a new one on a lift this time, does it need an O ring or anything to seal it? Any special tricks?

Yes, there is a funnel shaped rubber gasket.
