Bought this car thinking i could beat the nasty smell via brute force. Gutted most of the inside of the regal - that took about 30min LOL. Found some nasty mouse excrement under back seat, in glove box (WTH?), and various other places; really bad under back seat. even a dead mouse in there.

Cleaned all exposed surfaces with TSP substitute, 409, or Nature's Miracle (supposedly kills odors; not sure if it is really that great). Steam cleaned all fabric surfaces with Resolve and near boiling water. The car might actually smell ok now.

Small amount of surface rust on driver's floor sheet metal, and some of the glue seam seals have broken loose. What is the fix for these items before I put in the ACC carpet? I'm thinking sand out the rust and re-paint with Rustoleum or similar. Glue seams - I'm thinking that any Silicone sealer would work?

Carpet is sweet, i can't wait to get it installed!

Do NOT use sillycone there. . . It is acidic and will eat the metal away.

Use a seam sealer; many are available from 3M cheap; around 10 bux a tube.
Depending on the type you get there are different preps.

I would check up at the bottom edge of the windshield for leak. The seam sealer dries out and cracks and lets water in. You can ask me how I know? Your floors look real nice. I would treat that rust with por-15

Pull ALL of the material out of the car (even the headliner may hold stink-Easier to replace it. Surefire way to get most of the smell out). I like to POR everything when the carpet and headliner is out.

Use seam sealer and maybe even some dynomat then install the carpet.
