1. I'm still trying to track down false knock. If I disconnect the flexplate from the converter, can I rev the engine to say 4000rpms with damaging anything. I get false knock in park when I rev the engine. I want to try and isolate the problem by separating the converter from the engine.

2. Anyone ever used one of these?

I have an adapter that it may have been copied from.

Jack stands are all I have to raise my vehicles (no hoist), which may be why my adapter didn't work as expected. When I put it on my jack, the combination was too tall to be useful... wouldn't slide out from under the car with a transmission on it, and hard to get the tranny on or off the jack while under the car.

I built one that works for me out of a flywheel and a flat steel plate. A post was turned to fit the center of the flywheel on one end, and the jack pad's mounting hole on the other (welded the flywheel end). Then one edge of the steel plate was attached near the edge of the flywheel with a very heavy door hinge. The flywheel was drilled and tapped for 1/2 inch (bigger would be better?) redirod on the side opposite the hinge to allow adjustment to match the engine's angle of dangle. DISCLAIMER: straps, safety devices and actual design parameters are left up to anyone who chooses to build a similar device. Such safety equipment MUST be added to the basic idea shown above to prevent dropping the transmission off the jack adapter onto the mechanic's head, hands. private parts etc.! Still in safety mode: I driiled and tapped the jack pad mounting post- a huge washer bolted to the bottom keeps the adapter from falling off the jack, but will not prevent the entire mess from falling sideways if provoked.

(If, after all this, anyone is interested in the commercially built adapter I have, leave me a PM; I'll be back in a few days... )
