Hi to all I am new to the turbo world just bought a 1986 T Type Regal hoping I did not get taken. My question is shouldn't the body Tag Unit number ( in the upper right corner of the body trim tag) match the VIN serial numbers. All other Vin ID's and RPO codes seem to be inline except this number. The previous owner said no that the tags are original and correct. Vin tag matches the RPO tag on the trunk lid and all the RPO codes seem to be correct to what the car has on it. W11 package and all the black out codes. It also has the WH1 Designer Package code which I am not totally sure what it includes. Does anyone know what is meant by the Unit Number on the Body Trim Tag and should it match the last six on the VIN?

Thanks

Unit number and serial number aren't the same thing so don't be alarmed if they don't match. Welcome to the club.

The WH1's are worth slightly less than a Yugo with 80k on the clock. You should send it to me for proper disposal!!!

Really, the WH1's are pretty desirable. The 86 is special because it's the only intercooled WH1. The special paint scheme is (in my opinion) THE BEST looking of any offered on the g-body platform. I don't remember what all was included with it besides the paint, but one day....one day, I will have an 87 GN with a WH1 paint scheme. Good find and welcome to the world of TRs.

Thanks for the replies. Codes all seems to check out. I jumped on the purchase because of the body tag paint codes showing the 19L 15M 19U which I knew liked better but at the time did not know its desirability. But now the negatives of my purchase and it certainly has some. The engine has a major knock in it so I will be finding out what it cost to rebuild these turbo V6's. The original aluminum wheels and brake drums are replaced with the Steel GN style. The front aluminum bumper support has been replaced with a steel one. And the car was repainted to all black a no badging put back on yet. They were working on the GN look and then blew the engine and jerked it out. I guess all due to years of changes by previous owners preferences. My goal is to get it back to original if I can find and afford the parts. Just don't know at this point availability and cost will need to be figured out. I should have done more research but I jumped when it was listed for the price and was first there and made my choice, very solid straight body and clean interior original drive train. Got a nice ZZ5 engine I could drop in but can't bring myself to do that now that I know more about this T type. Any and all advice is welcome. Lots of work ahead

While my next regal will be a candidate for a Twin Turbo LS motor I think everyone should have a chance to enjoy these cars with the V6. Rather than just a plain old machine that moves you around it becomes real easy to form a love-hate relationship with these cars and the bond from pulling your hair out and smiling uncontrollably can't easily be had with other cars IMO. All that said, make the car the way you want and you likely wont be disappointed.
