Update a PTC converter?

I have a PTC converter that has a 3000 stall but it's been in my car for over 7 years. I had heard that they have advanced a lot since then and that I needed to send it back to get upgraded. Any truth to this and if so, what's involved?

Dusty...thanks for replying. I am not sure. I believe its a 9.5. How can I identify a lock vs. non lock?

The part number is on the converter. It will start with a 10 or 9.5

It's on the top side of the converter. The side which faces the transmission.
