Well I finally got the car on the road after about a year and a half of work. I've still got a long way to go. Even thought I dont post much about it you guys have helped me tremendously!! The search feature works great!!

Before:
album_pic.php

After:
album_pic.php

Mainly the transmission and of course a bigger turbo!! Its gots heads and cam on a stock turbo for the moment.

Wow, looks great! Just what I like to do on mine this winter ... Did you paint the engine bay or just clean it? Any more pictures with the engine out?

The engine bay was painted and clear coated for ease of cleaning in the future. I've documented the whole thing here

There is about three pages worth. The car also needs paint, I forgot to mention that one earlier. I think thats the biggest thing that the car needs.

Jan, I wish I could go into as much detail as you have with your car restoration, it blows mine away.

That is exactly what I'd like to do this winter but not decided jet how far to take this meaning if just clean it up or actually have it painted like you did ultimatly that is what I would really like to do but we will see. I currently have a spare plenum and intake being glass beaded, what type of paint did you use for yours and did you have them clear coated as well? What did you do with the headers and cross over pipe?

I will take down the complete front end (engine cross member and suspension components to have them blasted and powder coated), also need to replace front brake lines (hard lines) have new stainless ones waiting to be installed. Also have spare engine brackets already powder coated to be installed, and need to do my rear main seal at the same time .... so a lot of work but as mentioned not decided yet how far I'm going to take this.

The engine bay was PPG Deltron 2000. All the paint on the intake was rattle can from the auto store. Its the high temp paint that you find there. I also used rattle can clear to top it. I wish I would of gone the powder coat route, I put a few scratches on the intake allready installing it. It just doesnt hold up like the good paint or powder coat. The exhaust was sent out to a company called swain tech, for thermal barrier coating. The coating is white in color and can be painted over. I tried using the high temp paint form the auto store but it was only rated at 500 and has allready came off. I found an exhaust leak from a crack so I'm gonna take it back off and have it welded. Then I'm gonna try the 1500 degree stuff they sell and see if it holds up. I also took the whole wiring harness out of the car and completely reloomed it. If you do decide to car the car down like I did, take lots of pics and label everything!! The hardest part of this was trying to figure out how things were routed and which bolts went to what. I just didnt take enough time when I took it apart, it will save you lots of time in the long run.

Very nice looking engine....and bay. Pretty serious about this hobby aren't you!

Thanks for the details. Agree taking pictures and keeping the parts with nuts/bolts seperate makes it so much easier. I typicly take 100's of photos to be able to go back to see how things fit together but also to keep a record of what's been done to the car as well as very useful while helping other TTA owners out. Nuts/bolts I typicly clean and put in plastic bags that I mark clearly.

I will paint and clear coat the intake and plenum once I get it back next week, what I do is use a spary can and then use my owen (ask your wife or girlfriend firts :-) to cure the paint this way it is scratch proof, works very well.

You really done a great job on the engine bay and engine, hope mine turns out that good. I should have done this before I had the TTA painted as it's probabrly easier.

how much did it cost to have that done to ur engine bay?

Well the paint itself cost over 500 but that was for a gallon of paint, clear and primer. If all you wanted to do was the engine bay you wouldnt need nearly as much and could go with cheaper paint. My whole car needs paint, so I went ahead and got enough to do it all. My buddy shot it for me, so it only cost me paint.

cool thanks

Too funny about the oven Jan!
Lisa still gets "pissed" at me for all the things I "cooked" in the oven!
She showed up, started cooking, and the oven breaks (sounds like my cars, huh?)! She still blames me to this day for it breaking! But, cooking is cooking, right? Doesn't matter what you cook!;)
