So a coworker of mine (fellow gearhead) and I are in Christchurch, New Zealand and decide to check out a few speed shops because we had some time to kill. We stumble upon these two intakes which instantly raises our eyebrows.

I asked the guy (seemed fairly competent with carbed SBCs and LS motors) if there was a big Buick market in NZ and he replies only for boats ... i say V6s?, he replies nope, V8s ... I ask about the intakes and he says they've been there forever.

Anyone know about them?

(High rise is about $465 USD and the other is about $256 USD)

The first pic is for a stage 2 engine. The other smaller one is obviously a 4bbl unit for Buick V6.

The second one is an old Weiand intake that came out in the late 70's and was designed by Smokey Yunik. There were 2 tops available for it at the time. One used the stock dualjet 2 barrel carb and the other had a holley flange. The headers were shorty style and worked fairly well.

Interesting .. is the stage II one for before the black cars?

Was it worthwhile to bother with the intake and shortys on a 70s v6? We're they 3.8s?

It's for stage II heads only. There were some 3.8 stage II motors, but most were larger bores, like 4.0"+

The Stage II intake is made only for the stage II heads, but the heads will fit any of the 77 & 1/2 up Buick V6 RWD blocks. Stage II blocks came in a 3.8" bore and the same as the 4.1 bore. The major difference is that the stage II block and heads had 2 extra head bolts per cylinder for extra clamping force, and the heads had a different intake/exhaust port layout. Instead of IEEIIE (stock) the stage II head is set up as IEIEIE for better flow. I being intake and E being exhaust. Stage II blocks also had a 4 bolt main set up.

Except that the heads designed for the 4.1 blocks wont really work on the 3.8 blocks without some serious valve relief work.
