vacume pump?

I have vacume brakes (STICK WITH THE POWERMASTERS!!!) and i can't bring up the bost at the line and creap into stage, i have fly up to the line and get staged first so i have time to build boost, thats not much fun, i'd rather wait and play staging games . anyways, woudl a vacume pump off a mid 80's pontiac 6000 make enough vacume to hold the car? I got ahold of one at the junk yard, but it doesnt' run. so before i get another and spend a lot of time making it work, i'd like to know if it will work.

We used one off of a mid 80s caddy and it worked great. I dont know the model but a caddy with a front drive v8 is what it came out of. You will find the pump under the battery box on the driver side bolted the the frame rail.
