Valve Body Replacement

I bought a tranny from Bowtie Overdrives, its not a GN tranny. Its built for 600hp but it doesnt shift right. I was wondering whats involved in just replacing the valve body outta my original tranny into this tranny. The factory valve body has a shift kit already. How hard will this be with the tranny still in the car? I have tranny grease to hold the check balls in, but it looks like theres 12 or 13 balls above the valve body that are gonna fall out. Anyone ever attempted this? Any recomendations? Thanx!!

You should post what exactly do you mean by it doesn't shift "right". That is a general term and we should have more info before you dig deeper into it. First thing I would do is see what they say about the shifting. Then see if they can send you a sheet showing you where the check balls go. Chances are as in most shift kits, some of the factory check balls are omitted. If you do need to change out the V/B, it is done all the time. Best if done on a rack if you can. It will be very messy if not. Another concern is what governor is in it?
