Does anybody know the thread size and length for stock valve covers?
I tried a search and nothing came up.
Thank you :D

My 44W books show 3 different P/Ns:

25525491
25529857
25529858

No dimensions are given.

The bolts vary depending upon what is attached to them.

Good luck!

:)

They must be "standard" (SBC size and thread), whatever that is, since my Comp Cams degree kit dial indicator holder screwed right in.

HTH,
Tom

Thanks for the info. Guy's
Does anybody know what the length and thread size is?
Come on you slackers!! get out there and rip off a valve cover and let me know :D

Yes, try .250-20
(1/4-20), (.250 inch dia. by 20 pitch, (threads per inch)
and about 2.480 long (2.50 ") with a built in washer about
.06 thickness, so you would have an effective working length of about 2.43", I think.
Also, the bolts holding down the valve covers have 3 different part nos. because 2 of those part nos are different height standoffs, one holding the factory spark plug wire loom clip and the 2nd one is for the red plastic thingamafrickingjig of the shotgun side valve cover.
The third part no is a 1/4-20 standard bolt 2.5" long but with a washer swaged on to make it difficult or impossible to remove.

Oh, BTW, all of the above FWIW & IMHO

If you do any junkyard diving, you can find the bolts you need on 85 fullsize frontdrive Buicks/Olds with 3.8. In general, the same valve covers. In fact, to utilize an oil breather on the passenger side, I use a valve cover from an 85 front drive. ;)

Interesting info, Red, and thanks for it also.

Red: Does that set-up contain a hole or opening in the front of the valve cover to run the factory tube going up to the turbo bell?

Yes, it does. I don't use mine but it's there to be used. However, the rear of the valve cover does not slope off like the stock cover. You either have to round off the tips of the fins off the firewall end of the valve cover or dimple the heat shield so as to avoid contact. Not much of a problem.
