Seems everywhere I go, I see new valve covers explained as only compatable with the 86-87 cars. I always thought the valve covers where pretty much the same, and universal through all years of GNs. Is there really a difference between them? Ive been looking to maybe get some of those sheet metal covers, but Im not sure if they'll fit my 85.

I assumed the difference had to do with clearance - at least on the passenger side for hotairs. All the turbo pipes which hug the top of the pass. side cyl. head don't provide enough room for taller valve covers. Hopefully someone with more experience will speak up.

I have noticed that the passenger valve cover on a 86/87 has a breather hole in it at the end of the valve cover pointing towards the radiator. Other then that I don't know.

the 86-87 has the breather in the end if the valve cover as the 84-85 don't. onluy the factory covers work on the hot air cars because if the turbo piping.

I have taller valve covers on my 84 to clear
the T & D roller rocker arms. There are no clearance
issue. HTH
