I finally took the big step and changed the cam, heads, and injectors and got it running, and there was a scary tapping noise through-out the whole cam break-in time. I even started it again to pull it out and wash it and it was still "tapping". Does anyone have any ideas, like maybe the lifters aren't pumped up yet?Anyone have trouble with rocker arms hitting the valve covers? I used a Comp cams 206/206 with Champion aluminum heads(with Buick Motorsports valve covers)and MSD 50lbers. Any ideas?

FWIW, I use a mechanic's stethescope to pinpoint WHERE the noise is comming from. Could be a bad lifter, short pushrod, cracked rocker shaft (if running stockers), if you are running rollers they have been known to make more noise. If you don't have a stethescope, a long socket extension with one end placed up to your ear will help. Place the other end at various places and when you hear it the loudest, you at least found the area.

I assume you installed new Comp lifters?

As you probably know, you must always replace lifters when replacing the cam. Also, I have used Comp lifters in other vehicles and they seem to be noisier than stock lifters, don't know why.

lifters

I did use the new Comp lifters, and i can't imagine that they would be that noisy unless they are all collapsed(i hope not).I did use longer pushrods, but the rockers are stock, and it didn't make that noise before, so... i don't know what the h is making the noise. I won't be able to look at it again until next weekend now(vacation)if it turns out it is the lifters, they will be replaced by GM.
Thanks for the replies

I think so ,i ended up buying a beautiful set of the Champion aluminum adjustable roller rockers. It seems that the longer pushrods still weren't long enough. Only thing is when i start it after it's been sitting awhile, for a split second it taps, but goes away pretty much right away. I'm pretty happy with it's performance on the street, and if it don't rain this weekend i'll find out how it does at the track
