where can i go and type in my vin number to find out all of my cars origional options, weight, etc.? i cant figure out if my car is a t type or a gn. i just got it and the trunk lid is not origional and neither is the two front seats. there are no emblems on the car and the ones i do have do not include and t type or gn emblems. help is greatly appreciated.

if the trunk tag is still there it will tell you all of your options. if you see a WE2 then it's a GN, also on the dash above the glove box there is a plaque, look on it and under the word buick it will eiher say regal or grand national

HTH

the tag is gone but the plaque is not. it is a t type. thanks for your help. now i just need to find that webpage vin thing

I can break the VIN down for you, but it will not tell you whether it's a GN or not. The trunk tag decides that. Post the VIN

These Regals usually have a build sheet taped to the inside of the driver side door panel. It provides a build date and some of the RPO codes.

According to a GM VIN numbering manual (4th and 5th VIN positions):

G/J=Regal
G/K=Regal T-Type
G/M=Regal Limited

There is not a designation for Grand National, only via build sheet, RPO sticker or original window sticker

my car is officially a 1984 buick regal t type. i feel bad for the guy who sold it to me. hes gonna hear it now. thanks for the help everyone but i do not even have the tag on the inside of the driver door. it is there but where there should be writing there are just blank blocks. if its not one thing its another. by the way for gofstbuick my vin is 1g4ak4794eh543401

1g4ak4794eh543401
1=US built / G=General Motors / 4=Buick / A=Non-passisve, manual seat belts / K=Regal T Type / 47=Coupe-2 door notchback special / 9=3.8L, V6, SFI for the Buick Motor division/ 4=check digit / E=1984 / H=production plant: Flint, MI / 543401=Production sequence

The check digit and sequence numbers check correctly. There are only two Regal carline series (for year model 1984), Regal and Regal T Type

Why? because it's not a GN?

You realize a GN is a T Type and that it still may be a GN. Why do you think it's not a GN? Or better yet, why do you think it's a GN, since it has no GN emblems?

And finally does it really matter? It has a Turbo V6, that's what's important. ;)

IMHO, it matters if he paid a premium GN price for a T Type. I don't know whether or not there are price differences between a 1984 GN or T type. Also, I didn't know that in 1984 that a GN orginates from a T type. Is it possible for a 1984 GN to originate from a Regal (carline/series)? If as stated by b4black, if you're only looking for a Buick Turbo V6 car, does it matter? Jus my 0.02.

i was merely upset because the guy i bought it from knew i wanted a gn. it has been my dream car since i first saw one. i am perfectly happy with a ttype but the guy assured me it was a gn not a t type.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but after this point yes, I think it matters for you.

All 1984/1986 are VIN model "K" or T Type. In 1987 there was no "K" anymore. So all 1984/86 are T Types and the GN package is strictly cosmetic.

What's better, a GN missing the special cosmetic options or a T Type that has had them added? ;)

b4black:

The only reason I wondered, was that in 1984 the carline/series was represented by the 5th vin position only. And they were "J" for regal and "K" for T Type. But in 85-86 the carline series is represented by vin position 4 and 5. "GJ" is regal, "GK is T Type, and GM is Regal Ltd. I think I may just know more about 87 only, because my car is "GJ" with an option code WE2.

That is the only reason I inquired.
