voltage booster vs. hot wire

which should I get first? If I get the volt booster will it increase voltage to the pump like a hot wire? I understand the wire's running to the pump aren't very big. In other words...which would be more beneficial?

hot wire....gotta have a good wire to send the voltage to the pump....otherwise you are spinning your wheels
