Hey guys,

with my birthday coming up soon i have decided to gift myself with a new fuel pump and hotwire kit (finally). I was wondering where the best place to order from was, and what exatly would be needed... like does anyone sell a kit, that comes with pump and all the mounting accessories youd need, etc. Ideally I'm looking for the easiest hassle free install. From what i've read around here, it seems the racetronix kit has just about everything id want.. i can get the pump, mounting stuff, hotwire kit, and all that jazz. I dont know how the price comapres to some other vendors, but it seems like this is a pretty complete kit for not too much cash. anyone who ahs purchased this kit have any good or bad feedback? Is it pretty easy to install? I know this isnt some huge high-dollar part, but i always figure it cant hurt to do a little reasearch before just going ahead and dropping on money on something, ya know? I just figured I'd ask the guys who ahve been there and done that to see how you would reccomend i go about this. Thanks!

edit - I'm also probably gonna get a nice adj. fuel press. reg. too... so if anyone ahs any reccomendations as far as that goes, it would be appreciated too :)

Damn, i didnt realize adj. FPRs were that pricey! Are there different levels of them? My goal for the near future with the car will probably have it seeing only mid to low 13's, so if a cheaper unit would be fine for that level, id probably go with that... like Kirbans and Poston both have them for like 20-30 bucks less... the postons one looks to be the accufab unit as well though (just cheaper?). Hmmm, looks like ill have to take even more money outta the beer fund for these upgrades :( Is there any problem with running just the upgraded pump on the stock regulator for a while until i have enough spare cash to get the FPR? or is that not a good idea? Anyways, thanks for the help so far!!

I actually bought my afpr from Poston's....works fine. Id asume you could use stock for a while, you just wont have that great of a tunability range. Im also not sure of the stock regulators ability to provide sufficient fuel for boost levels above stock.

Flaboy- Keep your money in your wallet and forget about the fuel pressure regulator for now. I have an 85GN with 30LB injectors, stock turbo, totally relieved exhaust along with Poston headers. I have a new GM fuel pump which is Hot wired with the Racetronix kit. The car runs fine.
The purpose of the Walbro type fuel pumps and adj. fuel pressure reg. is because you would be running alot larger turbo, bigger fuel injectors......... as the chatter continues. This reduces the chance of detonation. I opted out of this upgrade because it would require me to get the 86/87 ECM, Turbolink software, adl fuel pressure reg,. new fuel pump, blah blah....or about $2000 installed. If you are staying within reason of stock-Don't do it. If you want to climb the mountain-You have to go for it. Just my thoughts. Brad

Well, i need a new fuel pump anyways, as mine is going to crap, and causing some problems for me, so i figured while im getting a new one, I might as well go for the hi-po walbro unit and a hotwire kit instead of a stock replacement. And while for the immedaite future my plans consist of jsut the ECM and MAF upgrade and an f-body rad (florida summer is coming up soon), hopefully not too long after that I'm gonna be going for a bigger turbo, injectors, up/down pipe, ported intake, etc. etc. to try and make some power out of it. Since i'd be needing an afpr at that point, i figure while im upgrading the fuel system i might as well get it taken care of now.

i didnt think you needed to change ECMs for the upgraded fuel system? im running the stock hotair ECM and coilpacks with my upgraded fuel parts and everything works fine

heres what i have in my car, i went the "cheaper" route for the fuel setup:

1) GM Syclone/Typhoon fuel pump - $75 (Poston sells this same pump for $120+, i got mine through a dealership. you will have to ditch the pulsator for a small section of fuel injector hose to mate it with the stock hardware, but this is a simple fab up)
2) Poston hotwire kit - $60
3) used Tomco 30lb injectors (3000 miles, bought off forum member) - $80
4) Accufab AFPR - $105

totalling that up you spend $320 and you have a fuel system that will safely put you into the 12s
